Neat Retreats, LLC, is a NJ/NYC-based company that was created 5 years ago by two women with a vision of offering friendly health and healing classes in wonderful places. Intermittently working together in theater, they were friends for over 25 years before realizing the dream of spreading their talents here and abroad.
Jo Ann Jones is a certified Hatha Yoga and Power Pilates instructor, as well as professor of Kinesiology, Dance, and author of Anatomy texts through Lotus Publishing, UK. Kathy Landers is a Reiki Master and Teacher with the Institute for Reiki Training and a member of the International Assoc of Reiki Professionals.
Just when retreat businesses began flooding the market, Jo Ann and Kathy came up with something different: affordability! Not caring too much for high-end resorts, they investigated other venues that were eco-friendly, submerged in the culture of the people and landscape, beautiful, and less expensive.
Their first venture was Costa Rica, 2008: twelve participants visited the Manuel Antonio Natural Reserve on the Pacific Ocean, staying in a charming B&B with ocean views, immersed in the jungle with all its sounds and beauty. From meditation and yoga classes on the deck, to fresh breakfasts in the host’s house and private Reiki treatments, the most important part of the trip was and continues to be the experience of the particular location.
In Costa Rica this includes everything from zip lining to beach time, volcanoes, even Latin dancing, taking in the local nightlife of music, dance, and amazing Costa Rican food and hospitality. The Costa Rica retreats usually begin in Manuel Antonio and end at the Arenal Volcano area with accommodations at the famous organic farm of Rancho Margot.
Locally Neat Retreats has sponsored day and weekend events throughout Northwest New Jersey and the Poconos. These include stress reduction clinics, Mother/Daughter retreats, yoga and Reiki classes, drumming workshops with percussionist Chuck Wood, and healing retreats with massage, essential oils, private classes and treatments, stretch workshops, Pilates, hiking, even kayaking.
Neat Retreats gives back to the communities they visit: in Costa Rica they donated their van to transport local natives from massive flooding, in NJ they contribute to the 9/11 victims’ Children Fund, and in Colorado to the National Center for the Disabled. Proceeds often go to organizations determined by the participants.
They will be sponsoring their 4th annual Women's Retreat in May, 2014 in the Poconos, and are going to new, beautiful location in July 2014: THE SOUTH OF FRANCE!
